The Jr. Bellies prevailed in a tight, defensive battle, 7 - 5 over perennial rival Coquitlam Adanacs ,Tuesday at QPA . Leading the way offensively for the Bellies was Keegan Bell and Ryan Jensen both with a pair of goals. Single markers went to Tres Leclaire, Erik Maas and Cam Garlin. Carter Dixon chipped in with 3 assists. Goaltender Erik Kratz was again solid in net with 33 saves on the night and won the goaltending edge over perennial all-star Christian Del Bianco. The game was a great defensive effort by both teams notably the Bellies who closed ranks around their net allowing Kratz to make save after save from outside the circles. The man short held the high powered Adanacs to no goals on the night and the Bellie defensive corps was solid all night long.Unlike the last game - a loss to PoCo - the Bellies played a much more disiciplined game, generally staying out of the box much of the night. With the win the Bellies retain their hold on 1st place in the BCJALL. Next game up for the Jr. Fishmen is this Sunday, May 27th at 4:00 pm against the Victoria Jr. Shamrocks at Queens Park Arena.
Bellies Bell, Maas and linemates celebrate a big goal Tuesday night !
The Jr. Bellies dropped their 1st game of the year in Port Coquitlam against the Saints Friday in PoCo. It was a chippy affair with a constant parade to the penalty box for the Fishmen, who lost both Carter Dixon and Dalton Lupul to game expulsions. Carter's high sticking major and expulsion came half way through the 1st period and hurt the Bellies offensively. Lupul was expelled after his 2nd double minor for cross checking taking the team's best defensive and man-short player out of the game. The Saints outscored the Bellies 3 - 0 in the 3rd period to seal the deal. Will Malcom continued his strong early season play with 2 goals and 2 assists.Tre Leclaire and Keegan Bell also hit for 2 more goals each with singles going to Erik Maas and Jr. B call up Noah Armitage. Goaltender Erik Kratz suffered his first loss this season but still came up with 36 stops in the Bellie goal. The Bellies' next game is a huge one with the perennial league powerhouse Coquitlam Adanacs visiting QPA this Tuesday, May 22nd at 8:00. This game may very well showcase the eventual showdown for 'best in the west'. Be there!
The Jr. Bellies continued to roll along in BCJLL action, getting their 4th win in a row , a 10 - 8 win against a tough and game Delta Islanders squad in the team's home opener Tuesday night at QPA. Leading the way for the Bellies offensively were captain Carter Dixon with 4 goals and 2 assists and Will Malcom with 3 and 2 for a 5 point night. Erik Maas had a solid night with 2 and 2 and Tre Leclaire had himself a 2 goal and 1 assist night. Bellie top scorer Keegan Ball did not register a goal but chipped in with a solid 5 assists and Dalton Lupul scored a great goal - from goalie Erik Kratz - on an end to end rush to round out the scoring. This was easily the Bellies' toughest game of the young season thus far, as the young Islanders gave them a great fight. Delta had 2 leads at 2 different times in the game and actually scored the tying goal with less the 4 seconds on the clock in regulation time. The big story of the night - and the main reason the Bellies had their hands full - was the play of Delta goalie Brody Harris, who came into the game early in the 2nd and put on quite a show. Harris made huge saves all night and finished the game with 51 total saves, many of them of the highlight reel variety. Tre Leclaire finally solved Harris in overtime with a 3 deke effort and Will Malcom added the insurance marker to seal the win. Goaltender Erik Kratz shut the door in overtime to gain his 4th win this young season. Next game for the Bellies is on the road this Friday May 18th against the surprising Saints of Port Coquitlam 8:00 pm at the PoCo Rec. Center.
