New Westminster, BC, March 26, 2018– The New Westminster Junior A Salmonbellies are very excited to announce the acquisition of 2015 BCJALL Rookie of the Year and 2017 NCAA Big10 Freshman of the Year Tre Leclaire.

"We're very excited to have a player of Tre's caliber joining the Salmonbellie family. Tre is a generational type player that immediately adds another dimension to our club that will help prepare us to make a run for the Minto Cup. We're very excited to have him,” says Salmonbellie GM Warren Goss.

A 6’2” 212 lbs. South Surrey, BC native, Leclaire was acquired March 23rd from the Delta Islanders where he led all rookies in scoring with 94 points during the 2015 season. Although playing only 15 games during the 2016 season due to his commitment to the Canadian National Team, he still scored an impressive 62 points. Leclaire was Team Canada’s star standout at the 2016 U19 World Lacrosse Championships in Coquitlam, BC, where they lost the heartbreaking gold medal game in overtime to Team USA. Leclaire has 2 years of junior lacrosse eligibility remaining and will be a welcome addition to the Salmonbellies offence heading into the 2018 season under new head coach Rich Catton.

Currently, Leclaire is playing his sophomore season with the Ohio State Buckeyes in the NCAA where he leads the program in scoring for the second straight year and is rapidly rewriting their record books. He set the Buckeye freshman goals record with 49 and notched 65 total points last season; the most ever for a Buckeye freshman. As a sophomore, Leclaire is picked up right where he left off last year leading the team in points and being added to the watch list for the 2018 Tewaarton Award for the nation’s top college lacrosse player honors.

Because of his NCAA commitments, Leclaire is expected to miss a portion of the beginning of the BCJALL season. Look for big things from our newest aquisition.
